About Screen Culture

Screen Culture International Film Festival exists for one reason: to give space to filmmakers who have something to say and aren't afraid to say it differently.

We're an international short film festival dedicated to students and independent creators working across narrative, animation, documentary, and experimental forms. We focus on films that demonstrate clear authorial intent, visual awareness, and a thoughtful relationship with contemporary screen culture.

Here's what matters to us: Why does your film take the form it does? That question interests us far more than how much it cost to make or whether it fits neatly into a genre.

What We Look For

  • Strong directorial vision – films with a clear point of view
  • Conscious use of cinematic language – thoughtful choices in image, sound, and structure
  • Personal, critical, or experimental approaches – work that takes creative risks
  • Engagement with the present – films in dialogue with contemporary screen culture

What We Don't Prioritise

  • Budget size or production value alone
  • Genre imitation without reinterpretation
  • Technical polish at the expense of vision
  • Playing it safe

A Curated Festival

Screen Culture is a curated festival.

Our selection prioritises originality, experimentation, and strong points of view over technical perfection.

We celebrate films that push boundaries, challenge conventions, and create the future of cinema.

For Students & Emerging Voices

We have dedicated student categories because we believe emerging filmmakers deserve their own space. Student filmmaking is a time of exploration, risk-taking, and discovery—and we want to champion that process, not just the finished product.

Beyond recognition, Screen Culture aims to support filmmakers through visibility, dialogue, and professional opportunities. Award Winners receive official certificates, laurels, and free access to partner platforms including Filmstro (royalty-free music tools) and iPitch.tv (industry connections).

The Screen Culture Award

Our cross-category honour, the Screen Culture Award, is given to the film that best embodies our festival's spirit: experimentation, critical engagement with the moving image, and a distinctive contemporary voice.

It doesn't matter whether it's narrative, experimental, or animated—if it pushes the medium forward, it's in the running.

Come Share Your Work

At Screen Culture, we celebrate the art of cinema. We come together at the end of the filmmaking journey—that long, difficult, rewarding process—to showcase finalists and invite them to share their stories. Whether you're a student exploring your voice or an independent creator redefining what film can be, we want to see your work.

Keep experimenting. Push boundaries. Submit your vision.
